Big Chocolate Chip Cookie

Chocolate chip cookies are a staple of every person's childhood and there is no doubt that home baked chocolate chip cookies are far better in every way from the store bought brands. While regular chocolate chip cookies are certainly popular, another fun trend taking place is the big chocolate chip cookie. The big chocolate chip cookie can be made to be just about any size depending on the amount of ingredients you mix together.

Here is a basic chocolate chip cookie recipe to follow:

In one (smallish) bowl, mix together 2 ¼ cups of flour, one teaspoon of baking soda and one teaspoon of salt. Set the bowl aside. Next, in a large bowl beat together the following ingredients: two sticks of softened unsalted butter (giving the sticks a quick zap will help the softening process), ¾ cup of white granulated sugar, ¾ cup of brown sugar (packed), and one teaspoon of vanilla extract. Beat these ingredients together until the mixture is very creamy. Next you will add two large eggs. The eggs need to be added one at a time and beaten thoroughly into the mixture before adding the dry ingredients from the dry flour mixture. The flour mixture should be added gradually until a consistent dough has formed. The last step to making basic chocolate chip cookies is to add the chocolate chips! Add as many as you like, but most recipes call for twelve ounces worth.

Now, to make your big chocolate chip cookie, you can take two tracks of action. The first is to scoop the dough onto a cookie sheet using a ¼ cup measuring cup. Normally with chocolate chip cookies you do not grease the cookie sheet. In the case of the big chocolate chip cookie, you might want to lightly grease the cookie sheet or line it with parchment paper. Your large blobs of cookie dough should be baked for 13 to 15 minutes at 325 degrees.

Another option is to spread your cookie dough over a twelve inch pizza pan. Before spreading the dough, you should cover the pizza pan with aluminum foil. The aluminum foil should be coated with cooking spray. Once you have a coated tin foiled covered pizza pan, take your cookie dough and spread it over the entire pizza pan. Make sure that the spatula you use to spread the dough is also greased. The oven should have spent at least ten minutes preheating to three hundred and fifty degrees before you put the cookie into the oven. Once you have put the cookie into the oven, you will bake the dough for fifteen to twenty minutes or until the cookie has reached a golden brown color.

The cooking time can vary and you might want to play with the ingredient amounts, but the big chocolate chip cookie is incredibly popular. A simple internet search will turn up dozens of tips and recipes on how to make one yourself. Maybe for your next party instead of having cake, you can have a big chocolate chip cookie!

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Tip #1

You can save cookie making time by mixing your ingredients while your oven preheats. That way your dough can go right into the oven when you finish mixing your ingredients. You can also save time by cleaning up as you go along. Rinse off the measuring spoons and the bowls as you finish using them. Wash the rest of the dishes as the cookies are baking and cooling.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Tip #2

Shortening is one of the single worst things you can put into your body. If a recipe calls for shortening you should substitute butter or margarine for it. Butter and margarine can be used interchangeably unless a recipe specifically says to use one or the others. Don't worry about the calories and talk yourself into using low calorie or whipped butter. These substitutes will ruin the taste of the cookies.

Chocolate Chip Cookie Cake Tip #3

Rotate your cookie sheets. Cookies form best on ungreased and cooled cookie sheets. After you transfer cookies from the sheet to the cooling rack, you should rinse off the used sheet and get it prepped for another batch of cookies. Using a warmed sheet can overcook the cookies.
